Danny’s life as a singer and local gay activist in Uganda was violently interrupted after he disclosed his homosexuality – a criminal offense in Uganda – on national radio. After being kidnapped, tortured, beaten and dumped on a roadside by Ugandan security forces, he knew he had to flee his home country and the persecution he faced there – persecution brought to Uganda in large part by a group of secretive, politically-connected Washington, DC-based conservative extremists called “The Family.” With the help of the Organization for Refuge, Asylum, and Migration (ORAM) and Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay, Danny has successfully resettled in the Bay Area where he finally feels safe and free.
