Out in The Bay partners with Stitcher Radio
San Francisco, January 19, 2010 – Popular public radio show Out in the Bay – gay radio from San Francisco recently inked a deal with Stitcher, the leader in on-demand news and talk radio for mobile phones, that will bring their show to Stitcher’s popular application.
Out in the Bay, a weekly radio interview program, has enjoyed five years on National Public Radio’s (NPR) San Francisco affiliate KALW, 91.7 FM. Out in the Bay is co-produced by broadcaster, talent consultant and comedian Marilyn Pittman and broadcast and print journalist Eric Jansen, who launched Out in the Bay after working as a producer on KQED-FM’s talk show Forum.
Since October 2004, the show has featured historians, authors, community leaders, scholars, everyday people and celebrities, including John Waters, Ang Lee, Cybill Shepherd, Augusten Burroughs, and Charo. “We explore our stories, personalities and history with humor, insight, and sensitivity,” says Pittman.
The show can now be heard on Stitcher, bringing Out on the Bay- gay radio from San Francisco to a wider and more mobile audience. Stitcher supports and helps promote a wide variety of talk radio shows. It offers a continuing platform to many talk shows in the face of the ever-changing radio market and format flips. Stitcher is a free “Smart Radio” mobile phone application available on the iPhone, Palm Pre and Blackberry and online at www.stitcher.com. Stitcher is available for anyone with an Internet connection or a supported phone. The latest episode of Out in the Bay is available on-demand in the Recently Added, LGBT, and San Francisco stations on Stitcher.
“We’re thrilled to be featured on Stitcher,” says Jansen. “Our online listeners let us know there’s demand for a thought-provoking program about queer issues far beyond San Francisco where our show is broadcast over the airwaves, and Stitcher makes Out in the Bay available to a global audience.”
Stitcher’s CEO, Noah Shanok agrees: “The way people listen to radio is evolving. Stitcher’s aim is to provide listeners their favorite programming wherever they are and whenever they want it. Out in the Bay is a fantastic addition to our line-up and we hope many people enjoy listening on Stitcher.”
