Theatre: Are gay rights civil rights?

Are gay rights civil rights? Is verbal gay-bashing still more acceptable than racist comments, even here in our Bay Area pro-gay bubble? A provocative play The Submission at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco gets into these questions and more. Does the gay rights struggle deserve the same respect as the battle for women’s rights or racial equality?  Or are LGBT activists just riding on the coattails of earlier,  “real” civil rights leaders?   Lead actress Sam Jackson and director Ben Randle discuss these issues and share bits from the play with host Eric Jansen on this week’s Out in the Bay, 7pm PST Thursday, Dec. 6,  on 91.7 FM Bay Area + globally.
